A gramophone is a timeless record player, known for its distinct analog sound and iconic, elegant design. I tried to capture its classy look while keeping the decorations tasteful and not overdone.
The most challenging part of designing the model was the large golden horn. I ended up using panel pieces typically found in recent LEGO car sets! These pieces ultimately determined the overall scale of the model.
On the side, there is a functional crank that spins the record in the accurate clockwise direction. The front panel of the gramophone can be removed to reveal a hidden compartment for storing an extra record - or for placing an audio device to play classic tunes! The needle, represented by a wand piece, can be rotated upwards to swap records easily. Additional accurate details include a knob that is used to adjust the speed on real gramophones as well as a brake that can be rotated to stop the record.
All in all the model includes 2056 parts, primarily in reddish brown and pearl gold, with highlights in metallic gold.
