UCS Rey’s Speeder

The Force Awakens, in our heroine Rey from Star Wars Episode 7, and in all of us when new imagery fuels our imagination and sparks our creativity. For me, one of the most interesting things about the Star Wars universe has always been the amazing designs of the creatures, the armours and the vehicles that makes it come to life, who make up the lived in, low-tech, tattered and damaged look of the world I came to love as a kid all those years ago.

When the new movie came out last Christmas I felt like a kid once more, for the first time in a long while. I was falling in love with Star Wars all over again, pouring over all the amazing designs of ships and aliens, new but still so familiar. The most eye-catching thing of them all, I felt, was Rey´s popsicle-like speeder; the shape of it, the colour, the worn down state that makes it look fantastic and realistic at the same time.

I knew I had to build it. I wanted to recreate it, get to know it, but I didn´t know how. I didn´t know if it could be constructed with LEGO in a way that would do it justice, but I had to find out. And though it took a long time to get it the way I wanted it, and though it left me scratching my head more than once, I just loved building it. And I think you would love building it too.

Ever since I first posted images of the model online, people have asked me if I have instructions for it and if they can buy it. Sadly, I don´t have any instructions and I don´t want to part from it. I like it too much on my shelf. And then came the suggestion that I should make it a project on LEGO ideas...

So here it is; an advanced, UCS size model of Rey´s already iconic speeder from Star Wars- The Force Awakens. It measures approximately 45cm in length and the scale makes it possible to capture all the exciting curves and interesting details of this rusty, beat-up beauty.
